Radioiodine is not the Preferred Choice of Treatment for Pediatric Graves’ Disease

چکیده
Radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation for treatment of hyperthyroidism in Pediatric Graves' disease is effective but limited literature exists regarding its long-term safety. There is no long-term prospective randomized controlled study on long-term safety of pediatric Graves' disease receiving RAI ablation. There are concerns regarding development of both thyroid and non-thyroidal malignancy, and primary hyperparathyroidism in subjects receiving RAI. Current evidences donot support routine use of RAI ablation in such situation. Surgery is a

Effects of treatment with radioiodine (¹³¹I) on the gonadal function of the hyperthyroid patients
Introduction: Hyperthyroidism is a relatively common disorder caused by different etiologies. Graves’ disease, and toxic-nodular goiter (Plummer’s disease) are among the most common causes. Treatment with radioiodine is considered to be the treatment of choice in many of the patients. Higher biological half-life of ¹³¹I in hyperthyroid patients as compared with patients with differentiate...
متن کاملRadioiodine (131-I) treatment for Graves’ disease: Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation for patient personalized dose estimation
Background: Reliable estimation of radiation-absorbed dose is necessary to evaluate the benefits and the risks of radiopharmaceuticals used for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes in nuclear medicine. Materiel and Methods: This study included 47 patients treated with iodine-131 for Graves’ disease. A comparative study between Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation and MIRD formalism was carried out to ev...

Guidelines for the treatment of childhood-onset Graves’ disease in Japan, 2016
Purpose behind developing these guidelines: Over one decade ago, the "Guidelines for the Treatment of Graves' Disease with Antithyroid Drug, 2006" (Japan Thyroid Association (JTA)) were published as the standard drug therapy protocol for Graves' disease. The "Guidelines for the Treatment of Childhood-Onset Graves' Disease with Antithyroid Drug in Japan, 2008" were published to provide guidance ...

Radioiodine therapy is the safest, simplest, least expensive and most effective method for treatment of Graves' disease. Due to difficulties in previous methods for dose determination, fixed dose method of 1-131 is now considered the best practical method for 1-131 therapy in Graves' disease, but there is no consensus on the dose. We compared two routinely recommended fixed doses of 5 and 10 mC...
